DIY Color Blocked Spoons

Color blocking is super in-style right now, mostly for fashion. I saw something similar to these spoons online for $30 and I thought, "I can do that....and cheaper, and in better colors". I bought these wooden spoons at the dollar store. I'd recommend just painting the ones you have. (They're probably nicer, and FREE!)

Cost: Less than $5 !
Difficulty: super easy

You need:
Wooden spoon(s)
Paint and brush
Cups to dry the spoons in

Step 1:
Paint 1/2 the handle of your spoons with your fave color.

Step 2:
Let it dry upside down in a cup. (optional: add a clear coat to protect the paint while washing)

TA -DA!

This craft is so ridiculously easy that my mom actually said, "Is that it?!" Yep..that's it. Enjoy!

Glitter Keys!

As you know, we LOVE glitter. I couldn't resist doing this to my house key the other night. It was so easy and now my key is ADORABLE (just what every boring house key dreams of being)!

Difficulty: EASY
Cost: Free if you have glitter..and who doesn't?

You'll Need:
A key (or many keys)
Mod Podge or regular glue
Glitter
Clear spray paint-- Don't skip this step!

Step 1:
Put your key on a glitter-safe surface. I use foil. Paint one side of your key with you glue.

Step 2:
Pour on the glitter! Let this side dry completely before doing the other.

Step 3:
Repeat steps one and two on the other side of your key.

GO OUTSIDE and spray both sides of you key with the clear coat. This is important! If you don't do this, glitter will fall off everywhere. Trust me, it's a mess.

Once that's dry, you're finished!

If you have lots of keys, do each one in a different color of glitter so you can ID them. Super fun!

World's Easiest Christmas Ornament

Seriously... this took me 1 minute to make. It will take me longer to post this than it did to finish the ornament.

All you do is open up the $1 plastic ornament from Michael's, stick a feather inside, and close it up!

BAM! Simple, pretty, EASY ornament.

You could fill these with anything, really. I'm thinking about filling a few with pom poms, maybe some yarn or thread, or just tons of glitter. Get creative!

Zipper Bracelet Fun!

I found this way cool Zipper Bracelet Tutorial by Cut Out + Keep.
I followed it, with just a few changes. The result.. SUPER cheap, fast, and easy. Have fun with it!

*I used a red, 7 inch jean zipper from JoAnn's. Only $2!!
*I couldn't find the cool lobster claw clip that had a base on it, so I just sewed mine to the end of the zipper. That only cost $1!
*I cut out the step of putting glue on the back. It doesn't hurt my wrist at all, so I didn't need it.

I LOVE how it turned out! It literally took me 5 minutes. And Iwill be making a few as Christmas gifts this year. Shh.. don't tell Katie ;)

No-Sew Felt Leaf Garland!

This fall colored felt leaf garland is a simplified version of some awesome Christmas felt garland that I saw last year at Etsy Dallas' Jingle Bash craft fair. Since I don't own a sewing machine, I had to do it a little different. I think it turned out adorable and is probably easier than sewing it!

Cost: $5
Difficulty: easy (time consuming though)

You will need:
Various colors of felt. I used the cheap stuff from Michael's (20 cents per sheet = 9 leaves)
Neutral colored yarn (again, I got the cheap kind)
Paper and pencil to make your leaf stencil
Scissors
Tape for the end of the yarn so it's easier to thread.

Step One:
Make your leaf stencil and cut it out. 3 inch leaves are a good size.

Step Two:
Trace the stencil on each piece of felt. I fit 9 on each piece. Then, cut those out too.

Step Three:
Cut 3 holes in each leaf by folding the leaf in half and sinipping a small hole. ** DO THEM ALL BEFORE YOU START THREADING**

Step Four:
Put a small piece of tape around the end of your yarn. This makes it much much easier to thread into the felt! Then, start threading the yarn through the leaves.

Step Five:
Keep on threading those leaves on! When you run out of leaves, tie small loops on the ends so you can hang the garland, and so that it doesn't unravel on you.

Now, hang above a window, drape a mantel, wrap it around banisters, or decorate the table!

Happy Fall! Now, go drink a pumpkin spiced late. You earned it!

Kid Craft! Paper Pumpkins

My girls got bored the other day so we made these ridiculously easy paper pumpkins. You can use fancier paper and make them for adults, but even the 5 year old did this with little supervision! (also I took the photos on my phone, so ignore the grainy-ness)

Cost: FREE (or $2 if you don't have any paper)
Difficulty: it's for children...

You Need:
paper, scissors, and a glue stick

First, cut your paper into 3 strips, and lay them out in a star shape like so, and glue them down:

Then... Take opposite sides, pull them up and glue them together, like this:

Then...do it with the other pieces until you have a ball shape

Next, make your stem with a tiny strip of green paper. I curled mine around a pencil first. The girls did straight ones.
And here's the proof that kids can do this::

This is so easy, how could you NOT do it? The pumpkins make nice place setting cards too!

Sequin Witch Hat Decoration

I babysat a couple girls the other night and they had these cool carboard witch hats from Jo-Ann's that we decorated together. They attacked their's with paint and glitter glue, but I saw a chance to make some really cool, sophisticated Halloween decorations. This is the first of 2... I went BIG with the sequins....

Cost: Less than $10, depending on sales and cost of sequins
Difficulty Level: Really easy, very time consuming (about 4 hours!)

You'll need:
Cardboard witch hat ($3 from Jo-Ann's)
Large black sequins (I used over 300, so buy 2 packs)
Glue gun
Patience!!

All you need to do, is start gluing sequins to the brim of the hat....

And keep on gluing.... Then cut off any sequins that hang over the edge.

Next... Move on to the pointed part. The top is a little tricky, and mine is a bit sloppy.. just hang in there!

<< At this point, I had already taken like 5 breaks. I never want to glue a sequin again. Did I mention I did this to my graduation hat too?? I'm up to 8 hours of sequin gluing in my life!

BUT it turns out pretty awesome when it's finally finished::

Paint Sample Garland. It's basically FREE!

This garland is super easy, adorable, customizable, and basically FREE!
You will need to know how to use a sewing needle...

You need:

A variety of paint sample papers (free at home depot and lowe's)
Needle and thread
Scissors
Heart shaped paper punch (or you can cut out the shape yourself, but it would take forever!)

First: use the hole puncher to cut out your colors. Any shape will do, but Katie already had the heart one so I borrowed it :)

Keep on punching till you get through it all!

Second: Thread your needle with the thread doubled over. You're going to need A LOT so cut it very long (over 3 feet for sure) Tie a knot at the end.

Third: Start sewing the paint paper hearts... go up from the back and down the front

Keep going until all the hearts are on...then tie another knot at the end!

Now, go hang it up!

****If I could do it again, I'd double up on the paint samples and stitch 2 hearts together so that there is color on both sides.

Here is a link for a ton of other paint chip crafts (I'll be trying some for you in the future)
